1TEC Partner Spotlight: MPM Oil

As part of our 1TEC Partner Spotlight series, we're taking a closer look at the companies behind the 1TEC Auto Hub network, what they bring to the network and why their expertise matters to us at Meadowfield Auto Centre.

This time, we're looking at MPM Oil.

The right oil. The right fluid. The right vehicle.

MPM's role within 1TEC Auto Hub can be summed up quite simply: making sure workshops have access to the correct oils and fluids for the vehicles they're working on.

1TEC describes MPM as one of the largest oil brands across mainland Europe, with its technical expertise supporting 1TEC workshops. Its stated mission within the network is to ensure every vehicle receives the correct manufacturer-prescribed oil or fluid.

That might sound straightforward, but modern vehicles make it increasingly complicated.

Engine oil, automatic transmission fluid, gearbox oil, coolant and other specialist fluids can all have very specific manufacturer requirements.

And that's something we take seriously at Meadowfield.

It's about specification, not just viscosity

Choosing the correct engine oil isn't simply a matter of reading 5W-30 or 0W-20 from the bottle.

Two oils can have the same viscosity while meeting very different specifications.

The vehicle manufacturer may require a particular performance specification because of the engine design, emissions equipment, service regime or materials used within the engine.

That's why our approach is to identify what the particular vehicle actually requires, rather than treating oils of the same viscosity as interchangeable.

MPM's product and application information gives 1TEC workshops another technical resource for doing exactly that. 1TEC specifically highlights MPM's product-recommendation tools and its focus on supplying manufacturer-prescribed oils and fluids.

Wet belts are a perfect example

One area where the correct engine oil has become particularly important is the wet timing belt.

Unlike a conventional timing belt operating outside the engine, a wet belt operates within the engine environment and is exposed to engine oil.

That makes lubricant specification particularly relevant.

And the recommendations themselves can change as manufacturers respond to what they learn from vehicles in service.

A good example is the Stellantis 1.2 PureTech engine family found across Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Vauxhall, Opel and other applications.

MPM currently produces a specific 5W-30 Premium Synthetic ST oil meeting Stellantis FPW9.55535/03, and explicitly identifies the product as suitable for PureTech and BlueHDi applications including versions fitted with a wet timing belt.

More importantly, MPM updated its own application recommendations following changes from Stellantis. In 2025 it advised that FPW9.55535/03 5W-30 had become mandatory across a wider range of Stellantis engines where different products had previously been recommended.

That's a great illustration of why we don't want to rely on assumptions or information that may no longer be current.

The correct viscosity is only part of the answer. The correct current specification matters too.

Why that matters at Meadowfield

Wet-belt inspection and replacement is an area we've invested in at Meadowfield Auto Centre.

When we're servicing a vehicle fitted with a wet-belt engine, the oil isn't an afterthought. Identifying the appropriate current specification for that particular engine is part of looking after the system correctly.

The same principle applies when we've replaced a deteriorated wet belt.

If we're going to carry out the mechanical work correctly, it makes little sense to then compromise by guessing which lubricant should go back into the engine.

It's another example of the philosophy behind our decision to join 1TEC: better information helps us make better decisions in the workshop.

And it doesn't stop at the engine

MPM's relevance to Meadowfield extends well beyond engine oil.

Modern vehicles contain an increasingly diverse range of specialist fluids, and automatic transmissions are one of the clearest examples.

In 2026, we invested in the equipment required to introduce dynamic automatic gearbox oil servicing at Meadowfield Auto Centre.

That allows us to service a growing range of automatic transmissions, including applications using DSG/DCT, ZF, Aisin and Mercedes-Benz automatic gearboxes.

And once again, getting the fluid right matters.

There isn't one universal 'ATF'

Automatic transmission fluid does considerably more than simply lubricate a set of gears.

Depending on the transmission, the fluid can be fundamental to lubrication, cooling, hydraulic operation and clutch behaviour.

Different transmission designs therefore have different requirements.

Even two gearboxes produced by the same manufacturer may not necessarily require the same fluid.

That's why we don't treat ATF as one universal product.

Before carrying out an automatic gearbox oil service, we identify the transmission fitted to the vehicle and establish the appropriate fluid requirement for that application.

For a multi-brand independent workshop working on everything from conventional torque-converter automatics to dual-clutch transmissions, access to accurate application data and specialist lubricants is extremely useful.

Supporting our dynamic gearbox servicing

This is where the relationship between Meadowfield, MPM and 1TEC becomes particularly relevant.

Our investment in dynamic gearbox servicing allows us to offer a service that goes considerably beyond a conventional engine oil change.

But investing in the equipment is only one part of doing the job properly.

We also need to know:

Which gearbox is fitted?
Which fluid does it require?
What specification applies?
How much fluid is required?
What servicing procedure applies to that transmission?

MPM's focus on manufacturer-prescribed oils and fluids complements exactly that approach.

It's not about finding a bottle labelled "automatic transmission fluid".

It's about identifying the correct fluid for the gearbox we're actually servicing.

Why MPM fits Meadowfield

This is ultimately why MPM makes sense as one of the technical partners behind 1TEC Auto Hub.

We're an independent, multi-brand garage.

One day we might be servicing a straightforward petrol hatchback. The next we could be replacing a wet timing belt, servicing a DSG transmission or carrying out maintenance on a modern hybrid.

There isn't one product that covers everything.

There isn't one specification that covers everything.

And there isn't one answer that can simply be applied to every vehicle that enters the workshop.

What we need is access to good products, accurate application information and technical expertise.

That's exactly the type of support 1TEC says its technical-partner structure is designed to give independent workshops.

Part of a stronger technical network

Joining 1TEC Auto Hub isn't about changing Meadowfield into something else.

We're still independently owned. We're still the same team in Ponteland, and we'll continue making our own decisions about how we look after our customers and their vehicles.

What 1TEC adds is access to a wider network of knowledge, training, products and technical partners. 1TEC itself describes its workshops as 100% independently owned while benefiting from the collective strength and support of the wider network.

MPM is a particularly good example of why we see value in that.

From routine servicing, through wet-belt engines, to our dynamic automatic gearbox oil servicing, modern vehicle maintenance increasingly depends on having the correct technical information and using the correct fluid for the application.

And that's something we can get behind.

Still independent. Still Meadowfield. Just stronger.
