Our Story

From work experience to Meadowfield Auto Centre

Meadowfield Auto Centre is an independent garage in Ponteland, Northumberland, established by Stephen Browne in December 2016.

Today, we provide MOT testing, car servicing, vehicle repairs, tyres and diagnostics in Ponteland, together with specialist services for increasingly complex modern vehicles.

But our story in Ponteland began long before the Meadowfield name appeared above the door.

Where it started

Stephen grew up in Ponteland and attended local schools before first experiencing the motor trade through school work experience at the garage that would eventually become Meadowfield Auto Centre.

At the time, the business operated as A&K Motors.

That early experience developed into a career in the automotive industry, with Stephen gaining experience both at the garage and elsewhere in the motor trade.

Years later, the opportunity arose to take over the business where his career had started.

In December 2016, Stephen became the owner and Meadowfield Auto Centre was established.

It was the beginning of a new chapter for the garage — but also the continuation of a connection with Ponteland that had already existed for years.

Building a modern independent garage

From the beginning, the ambition for Meadowfield was to combine the qualities people value in a local independent garage with the standards and technical capability required of a modern workshop.

The motor industry doesn't stand still.

Neither can we.

Since 2016, Meadowfield has continually invested in our workshop, equipment, technology, technician training and customer experience.

As cars have changed, the services we provide have developed with them.

Alongside everyday servicing, MOT testing, tyres, repairs and vehicle diagnostics, our technical capabilities have expanded into areas including wet-belt replacement, automatic gearbox oil servicing and hybrid and electric vehicle maintenance.

The objective has never been to introduce something simply because it's new.

We invest where we believe it helps us provide a better service and properly maintain the vehicles our customers are driving.

Ellie joins Meadowfield

In 2020, Ellie joined Meadowfield after previously working within the BMW and MINI dealer network.

That marked another important stage in the development of the business.

Since then, Stephen and Ellie have continued to develop Meadowfield together, while retaining the personal service and accountability that come from being an independently owned local garage.

Meadowfield has grown considerably since 2016, but we haven't wanted growth to change the relationship we have with our customers.

We're still a local independent garage.

Investing in our people

Modern vehicles require modern technical knowledge.

That's why the development of Meadowfield hasn't only been about buying new equipment.

We've continued to invest in technician training and professional development, helping our team build knowledge across both traditional vehicle systems and newer automotive technologies.

Our technicians have undertaken specialist training through organisations including LKQ Academy, with further professional development and industry accreditation forming part of that journey.

That training supports the work we carry out today and helps prepare Meadowfield for the vehicles we'll be maintaining tomorrow.

Recognition from the motor industry

As Meadowfield has developed, our work has also received recognition from within the UK automotive industry.

The business and the people behind it have received awards, industry recognition and national finalist positions, placing Meadowfield alongside some of the UK's leading independent garages.

We're extremely proud of that recognition.

But awards have never been the reason we make improvements.

They are recognition of the standards we're continually trying to achieve.

Our Awards & Recognition page tells that part of the Meadowfield story in full.

Still independent

In 2026, Meadowfield Auto Centre joined the 1TEC Auto Hub network.

1TEC brings together progressive independent garages and provides access to additional technical support, training and expertise from leading automotive organisations and brands.

Importantly, Meadowfield remains independently owned and independently run.

For us, joining 1TEC wasn't about changing what Meadowfield is.

It was about supporting the direction in which the business was already developing.

Still independent. Still Meadowfield. Just stronger.

Ten years of Meadowfield

December 2026 marks ten years of Meadowfield Auto Centre.

A lot has changed since Stephen took ownership in December 2016.

The garage has developed.

The team has developed.

Vehicle technology has changed enormously.

And Meadowfield has continued to evolve with it.

But some things haven't changed.

We're still based in Ponteland, Northumberland.

We're still independent.

And we're still committed to looking after our customers and their vehicles properly.

Proud to be part of Ponteland

Ponteland isn't simply where Meadowfield happens to be located.

It's where Stephen grew up, where his introduction to the motor trade began and where Meadowfield has subsequently grown.

We're proud to support our local community and particularly proud when the achievements of Meadowfield and our team allow us to represent Ponteland and Northumberland within the wider automotive industry.

As the business has grown, our roots have remained firmly here.

Our community in Ponteland

The next chapter

The cars arriving at Meadowfield today are very different from many of those we worked on when the business began in 2016.

And they'll continue to change.

Our job is to keep developing with them.

That means continuing to invest in our people, technical knowledge, equipment and the services our customers need, while protecting the independence and personal service on which Meadowfield was built.

From school work experience at a local Ponteland garage to ten years of Meadowfield Auto Centre, it's already been quite a journey.

But we're not interested in standing still.

We want to keep raising standards, year after year.
