Meet Stephen Browne – The New Owner of Meadowfield Auto Centre

There's a new name coming to a familiar garage in Ponteland.

In December 2016, Stephen Browne took over the garage on Meadowfield Industrial Estate, beginning the transformation of the business into Meadowfield Auto Centre ahead of its official opening in January 2017.

But although the Meadowfield name is new, Stephen's connection with the garage goes back much further.

From school work experience to garage owner

Stephen grew up and went to school in Ponteland, attending Darras Hall First School before moving through Ponteland Middle School and Ponteland High School.

His connection with the garage itself began while he was still at school.

Stephen completed work experience at the garage when it operated as A&K Motors, getting an early introduction to the motor trade at the same workshop he would eventually come back to own.

After leaving school and beginning his career in the automotive industry, Stephen went on to work in the motor trade both at A&K Motors and elsewhere in Newcastle, building experience in vehicle servicing, repairs and the day-to-day operation of a busy garage.

Years later, an opportunity arose to take over the business.

For Stephen, it meant returning to where much of the story had started.

This time, as the owner.

A&K Motors becomes Meadowfield Auto Centre

The garage has served motorists in Ponteland and the surrounding area for many years under its previous identity.

Following the change of ownership in December 2016, Stephen is now preparing to give the business a new name and a new direction.

Meadowfield Auto Centre will officially open in January 2017 from the existing workshop on Meadowfield Industrial Estate, Ponteland, Northumberland.

The garage will provide MOT testing, car servicing, vehicle repairs and general vehicle maintenance for motorists throughout Ponteland and the surrounding area.

There will be a new identity and plenty of changes behind the scenes, but Stephen wants Meadowfield to retain one of the biggest advantages of a genuinely local independent garage: knowing its customers and being accountable for the work it carries out.

Building something for Ponteland

Taking over an established garage is only the beginning.

Stephen's ambition is to continually develop Meadowfield Auto Centre, investing in the workshop, equipment, people and customer experience while building a reputation for professional workmanship, honest advice and reliable vehicle maintenance.

As someone who grew up in Ponteland, there is an additional significance to building the business here.

The same garage where Stephen once arrived as a school pupil on work experience is about to begin its next chapter with him at the helm.

There's plenty of work to do before the doors officially open.

But we're looking forward to showing Ponteland what's coming.
