Meadowfield Auto Centre Celebrates Top Garage Awards 2026 Finalist Recognition

Ponteland's Meadowfield Auto Centre has been named a finalist in the prestigious Top Garage Awards 2026, marking another significant achievement for the independent garage as it approaches its tenth anniversary in December.

For owners Stephen and Ellie Browne, the recognition represents far more than another industry award. It is a testament to years of hard work, determination and resilience, both personally and professionally.

However, despite the excitement surrounding the nomination, the couple have made the difficult decision not to attend this year's finals and awards ceremony, taking place on 14 November 2026 at Delphi Academy in Warwick.

The decision comes as the date falls during a particularly emotional period for the family, marking the anniversaries of several life-changing events in November and December 2022.

A National Recognition Worth Celebrating

The Top Garage Awards recognise excellence within the UK's independent automotive aftermarket, celebrating garages that demonstrate outstanding standards of workmanship, business management and customer service.

For Meadowfield Auto Centre, based on Meadowfield Industrial Estate in Ponteland, Northumberland, reaching the 2026 final is another milestone in a journey that began when Stephen Browne took ownership of the business in December 2016.

Over the past decade, Meadowfield has developed into a respected, multi-award-winning independent garage, providing MOT testing, vehicle servicing, repairs, tyres and diagnostics to customers throughout Ponteland and the surrounding Northumberland area.

The business has received recognition through several national automotive industry awards, including being named runner-up for Best Single Site Garage at the Automechanika Garage Awards 2026 and reaching the finals of the Motor Trader Industry Awards 2026.

Being recognised once again, this time through the Top Garage Awards, is an achievement the family is immensely proud of.

A Difficult Decision for the Family

While the Top Garage Awards final is an occasion Stephen and Ellie had been looking forward to, its timing has presented a difficult personal decision.

November and December mark the anniversaries of an incredibly emotional period in the family's lives.

In November 2022, Stephen lost his father. On the day of his father's funeral, Ellie went into labour with their son, Cai.

Just a few weeks later, in December 2022, Ellie suffered a stroke.

Within the space of a few short weeks, the family experienced some of the happiest and most difficult moments of their lives.

Four years later, the proximity of these anniversaries continues to carry considerable emotional weight.

The family have therefore decided that attending the awards ceremony, alongside the pressures of running a busy garage and navigating this particularly significant time of year, would simply be too much.

For Stephen and Ellie, it is a decision made with sadness, but also with the understanding that sometimes family must come first.

Resilience, Perseverance and Perspective

Reflecting on the decision, Stephen Browne, owner of Meadowfield Auto Centre, said:

"November and December will always be an emotional time for our family. They're a time to celebrate our son's birthday, remember what we've lost, but also reflect on our own resilience, perseverance and just how far we've come.

"In many ways, being named a finalist is already a win for us. After everything we've been through, to have continued building Meadowfield into a business recognised among the best in the country is something we're immensely proud of.

"The awards are a testament to the hard work, determination and sacrifices that have gone into getting us here.

"Of course, we'd love to bring home a trophy, but whatever happens on the night, we already feel like we've achieved something pretty special."

Approaching Ten Years of Meadowfield Auto Centre

The recognition comes at a particularly meaningful moment for Meadowfield Auto Centre, which will celebrate ten years under Stephen's ownership on 16 December 2026.

Since taking over the business in 2016, Stephen has worked to develop Meadowfield into a modern, customer-focused independent garage, investing in staff training, workshop equipment, facilities and customer service.

Ellie joined the business in 2020, bringing her experience from the automotive retail sector and helping to shape its continued development.

Together, they have navigated the challenges of running a growing business while balancing the demands of family life.

Despite the difficulties they have faced, Meadowfield has continued to develop its services, strengthen its reputation and earn recognition within the automotive industry.

For Stephen and Ellie, reaching another national awards final as the business approaches its tenth anniversary is a reminder of just how far they have come.

Looking Ahead

Although Stephen and Ellie will not be attending the Top Garage Awards 2026 finals, their pride in reaching this stage remains undiminished.

The couple would like to congratulate their fellow finalists and thank the organisers for recognising the dedication and hard work of independent garages across the UK.

They would also like to thank Meadowfield's customers, employees, suppliers and the wider Ponteland community for their continued support.

As the business prepares to celebrate its tenth anniversary, the focus remains on continuing to provide the high standards of service, workmanship and customer care that have helped establish Meadowfield Auto Centre as an award-winning independent garage in Northumberland.

For Stephen and Ellie, reaching the Top Garage Awards 2026 final is already a victory worth celebrating.

After everything the family has experienced, the recognition represents something far greater than a trophy.

It represents ten years of hard work, resilience, perseverance and a determination to keep moving forward.
