Meadowfield Auto Centre Installs EV Charging Point

There's something new on the wall at Meadowfield Auto Centre in Ponteland.

On 17 December 2020, we completed the installation of an electric vehicle charging point at our garage on Meadowfield Industrial Estate.

It's another investment in the future of Meadowfield and reflects something that's becoming increasingly apparent across the motor industry: the vehicles coming into independent garages are changing.

Petrol and diesel aren't disappearing overnight, but electric vehicles and hybrid cars are becoming an increasingly important part of the UK's vehicle fleet.

We want Meadowfield to change with them.

Preparing our Ponteland garage for electric vehicles

Since opening as Meadowfield Auto Centre in January 2017, we've continually looked for ways to develop the garage, our equipment and the services we're able to provide.

Installing an EV charging point is another step in that process.

The charger gives us the ability to charge electric vehicles at the garage when required and begins preparing the site for a future in which battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and other electrified vehicles will become a much more familiar sight in independent workshops.

For a garage, the transition to electric vehicles isn't simply about installing a charger.

It means understanding new vehicle technology, adapting workshop equipment and procedures, developing technical knowledge and ensuring that independent garages continue to have a role in maintaining the next generation of vehicles.

This is one small part of that journey.

Independent garages are changing too

There's sometimes an assumption that electric and hybrid vehicles belong exclusively within the main-dealer network.

We don't believe the independent motor trade should stand still while vehicle technology changes around it.

Meadowfield Auto Centre is an independent garage and MOT testing station in Ponteland, Northumberland, providing servicing, repairs, diagnostics and vehicle maintenance across a wide range of makes and models.

The cars our customers drive will inevitably change over the years ahead.

Our job is to keep developing with them.

That means investing in equipment and infrastructure when it makes sense, keeping up with new technology and continuing to build the knowledge required to maintain increasingly sophisticated vehicles.

Investing in the future of Meadowfield Auto Centre

A charging point might not look like the biggest workshop investment we've ever made.

But we think what it represents is important.

Meadowfield is still a relatively young business. We're approaching four years since opening under the Meadowfield Auto Centre name, and we're continuing to develop what our Ponteland garage can offer.

Our aim isn't simply to maintain the garage we have today.

It's to build a business capable of looking after the cars our customers will be driving tomorrow.

EV charging has arrived at Meadowfield. ⚡
