Ponteland Garage Reaches National Garage of the Year Finals

Ponteland-based Meadowfield Auto Centre has been recognised as one of the UK's leading independent garages after reaching the finals of the Automechanika Garage of the Year Awards 2026 in the Best Single Site Garage category

The prestigious national awards celebrate excellence, with finalists selected from garages across the UK.

For owner Stephen, who grew up in Ponteland and attended Ponteland High School, simply reaching the finals was a huge achievement. "While we didn't take home the award, being nominated and then shortlisted as a national finalist is something we're incredibly proud of."

Stephen first visited Meadowfield Auto Centre while on work experience before later completing an apprenticeship and eventually taking ownership of the business in 2016.

Today, he runs the family-owned garage alongside his wife Ellie. Together they have focused on building a business centred around high standards, same-day turnaround and customer service.

The journey has not always been straightforward. Following the birth of the couple's son in 2022, Ellie suffered a stroke and spent many months recovering before returning to the business in late 2023. Since then, she has played a key role in helping drive the business forward.

Stephen added: "We have worked hard to raise standards year after year. To receive national recognition for those efforts means a great deal to us and our team."

"Most importantly, we'd like to thank our customers. Without their support and trust, none of this would have been possible."
