The finalists for the 2026 Top Awards have been announced, recognising some of the UK’s leading automotive technicians, apprentices and independent garages ahead of next month’s national finals.
Following months of qualifying assessments and live semi-finals, the successful entrants will compete for the prestigious Top Technician, Top Apprentice and Top Garage titles at the Delphi Academy in Warwick on Saturday 14 November 2026.
The competition celebrates technical expertise, diagnostic ability, customer service and garage business performance, with finalists facing practical challenges and assessments designed to reflect the demands of the modern automotive aftermarket.
Winners will be announced later that evening at an awards ceremony at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Coventry.
Independent garages compete for Top Garage titles
The Top Garage competition recognises independent automotive businesses that demonstrate high standards of customer care, workshop management, staff development and sustainable business performance.
Unlike the individual technician competitions, Top Garage examines how an entire business operates.
Finalists will face an independent judging panel and answer questions about their working practices, customer relationships, employee development and responses to changes within the automotive industry.
The awards cover several garage sizes and business models, ensuring that smaller workshops can compete within categories relevant to their operations.

Why the awards matter to independent garages
The Top Awards provide an opportunity to recognise the technical expertise and professionalism found throughout the UK’s independent automotive aftermarket.
Modern vehicle repair increasingly requires knowledge of advanced electronic systems, vehicle communications networks, electrified powertrains and manufacturer-specific diagnostic procedures.
For technicians, competitions of this kind provide an opportunity to benchmark their skills against other experienced professionals.
For apprentices, they offer recognition and encouragement at an important stage of their careers.
And for garage owners, the Top Garage competition highlights the importance of combining technical competence with sound business management and strong customer service.
Ian Gilgrass, Head Judge of the Top Awards, said the standard of this year’s finalists demonstrated how much the competition continues to develop.
He emphasised that participants use the process to identify weaknesses, improve their capabilities and help raise standards across the industry.
Finals open to garage owners and technicians
The Top Awards 2026 finals will take place on Saturday 14 November at the Delphi Academy in Warwick.
For the first time, the daytime finals are open to the wider automotive aftermarket, allowing garage owners, technicians, apprentices and other trade professionals to watch the competitions.
Visitors will also be able to explore technology demonstrations, meet industry partners and attend the Ben’s Big Breakfast charity event.
Daytime access is free to trade visitors, while the evening awards dinner will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Coventry.
Further information about attending is available through the official Top Awards website.
The winners of Top Technician, Top Apprentice, Top Garage and the additional award categories will be announced during the evening ceremony.
