We’ve Introduced an AI Receptionist at Meadowfield Auto Centre
We were missing too many phone calls — and that wasn’t the standard of customer service we expect from ourselves. So, we decided to do something about it.

Running a busy independent garage means there are times when everyone is already helping somebody.
We might be speaking to a customer at reception, dealing with another telephone enquiry, talking to one of our technicians about a vehicle or simply handling one of the many things that happen during a busy day at Meadowfield Auto Centre.
That's part of running a busy garage.
But there was one part of it we weren't happy with.
We were missing too many calls.
And while there might have been a perfectly good reason why we couldn't answer at that particular moment, that doesn't make much difference to the person at the other end of the phone.
An unanswered call is still an unanswered call.
So, we've introduced something new at Meadowfield:
Meet our AI receptionist
We've introduced an AI receptionist specifically designed for the motor trade, providing our customers with another way to speak to Meadowfield when our team can't immediately answer the phone.
And we chose it very carefully.
We didn't want a generic automated telephone system that simply asks you to press buttons or takes a name and telephone number.
We wanted something that actually understands what we do.
Our AI receptionist understands the language of the motor trade, so you don't need to think about how to explain why you're calling.
Whether you're looking to arrange an MOT, service, repair or diagnostic assessment, need tyres, have a warning light on the dashboard or simply need to get a message to us, you can talk naturally about what you need.
It can see our diary in real time
This is where it becomes particularly useful.
Our AI receptionist has access to the Meadowfield diary in real time.
That means it isn't simply taking a message for somebody to deal with later. It can check our current availability and, where appropriate, make a booking for you there and then.
It can also take messages and pass the relevant information on to the Meadowfield team when something needs our attention.
For our customers, it means there is now an alternative to repeatedly calling when we're unable to answer.
Are Stephen and Ellie still answering the phone?
Absolutely.
We haven't introduced AI to replace the people behind Meadowfield.
If we're available when you call, you'll still speak to us just as you always have.
The difference comes when we're not available.
Rather than allowing the telephone to continue ringing unanswered, our AI receptionist can step in and help.
That's an important distinction for us.
Technology should support good customer service — not get in the way of it.
Why introduce AI into an independent garage?
Cars have changed enormously since Meadowfield Auto Centre was established in Ponteland.
The equipment we use has changed. Diagnostics have become more sophisticated. Vehicle technology has advanced. The way customers book and communicate with businesses has changed too.
We think the way we run a garage should continue to evolve with it.
Over the years we've invested in our workshop, diagnostic equipment, online booking and the systems our team uses behind the scenes.
Our AI receptionist is another part of that development.
Not because AI happens to be the latest technology, but because we had a genuine problem that technology could help us solve.
We were missing calls.
People weren't always receiving the standard of service we demand from Meadowfield.
Now, when we're unable to answer, there's another option.
The same Meadowfield, just easier to reach
Ultimately, that's what this change is about.
We're still the same independent garage in Ponteland, Northumberland, providing MOT testing, servicing, vehicle repairs, tyres and diagnostics.
The people haven't disappeared.
The personal service hasn't disappeared.
We've simply added another way for customers to communicate with us.
Because as Meadowfield continues to grow, we don't think our customers should have to accept poorer service as a consequence.
If something isn't working as well as we think it should, we'll look for a better way of doing it.
This was one of those occasions.
So, the next time you give Meadowfield a call, you might find yourself speaking to the newest member of our reception team.
Don't worry — they know the lingo.
