Why Meadowfield Auto Centre Is Joining the 1TEC Auto Hub Network
At Meadowfield Auto Centre, we've always believed that standing still isn't an option.
Since taking over the business in 2016, we've continually invested in our workshop, equipment, training, technology and the products we use. The aim has always been simple: raise our standards year after year and build value into everything we do.
That's why we've made the decision to join the 1TEC Auto Hub network.
A network built around independent garages
One of the things that immediately appealed to us about 1TEC Auto Hub is that it isn't about changing who we are.
Meadowfield Auto Centre remains proudly independent. We make our own decisions, choose how we operate and continue to provide the personal, local service our customers expect from us.
What 1TEC adds is the support of a growing national network of professional independent garages, backed by LKQ Euro Car Parts and some of the biggest names in the automotive aftermarket.
It's independent service with considerably more expertise and resource behind it.
The right brands around the table
A major factor in our decision was the calibre of the companies involved with 1TEC.
The network brings together technical and product expertise from brands including:
- Shell – engine oils and lubricants
- MPM Oil – specialist oils and vehicle fluids
- VARTA – battery technology
- Pagid – braking components
- Schaeffler – including LuK, INA and FAG products across clutch, timing, drivetrain and chassis
- ZF Aftermarket – transmission, driveline and chassis technology
- Valeo – vehicle systems and automotive technology
- LKQ Euro Car Parts – parts supply, logistics and aftermarket support
These aren't brands we've suddenly discovered because we're joining 1TEC. Many of them already represent exactly the level of product and technical support we want around our workshop.
That's an important distinction.
We didn't join a network to tell us how to run our garage. We joined one that supports the way we already want to run it.
An ethos that feels familiar
The more we learned about 1TEC, the more overlap we saw between its direction and our own.
1TEC describes itself as “a garage network prepared for the future”, with a focus on progressive, forward-looking independent workshops.
That's increasingly important.
Cars have changed enormously, and they're continuing to change. Modern servicing and repair can involve sophisticated electronics, increasingly complex diagnostic systems, advanced battery technology, highly specific oils and fluids, hybrid and electric systems and increasingly complicated transmissions.
The independent garage of the future needs more than a toolbox and a parts catalogue.
It needs good technicians, good information, good equipment, ongoing training and access to technical support.
Those are things we've been investing in at Meadowfield for years.
Joining 1TEC allows us to build on them.
Training and technical support
Access to training and technical information was another major attraction.
Through the network, 1TEC members have access to resources including LKQ Academy, technical data, diagnostic support and training and information from the network's technical partners.
For us, that's important because we don't believe in guessing.
When we're working on a customer's vehicle, we want our technicians to have access to the right information, understand the technology they're working with and use the correct products for the application.
And as vehicles become more complicated, continuing to develop that knowledge becomes even more important.
The right part, not simply the cheapest part
There's another area where the 1TEC philosophy fits Meadowfield particularly well: parts quality.
We've never wanted to build Meadowfield around finding the cheapest possible component that happens to fit a car.
We want to fit the right part.
The same applies to engine oil, transmission fluid, batteries, braking components, clutches, timing components and everything else we use.
Modern vehicles are becoming increasingly sensitive to using the correct specification. Sometimes two products can look almost identical while being very different technically.
Having manufacturers and technical brands such as Shell, MPM, VARTA, Pagid, Schaeffler and ZF involved in the network gives independent garages access to expertise much further up the supply chain.
Ultimately, that helps us make better decisions in the workshop.
Independent, but not on our own
We think there's something very powerful about the modern independent garage.
We can offer the familiarity and personal service of a local business while investing in equipment, technology and training that allows us to look after increasingly sophisticated vehicles.
A network like 1TEC strengthens that model.
We remain Meadowfield Auto Centre.
The same people will answer the phone. The same technicians will work on the cars. The same standards will apply in the workshop.
But behind us will be a wider network of independent garages, technical partners, training resources and some of the automotive industry's most established brands.
For our customers, that's the important part.
The next step for Meadowfield
As we approach ten years since Meadowfield Auto Centre began in its current form, joining 1TEC feels like a natural next step.
Over those ten years we've changed a lot.
We've invested in our workshop. We've introduced new equipment and services. We've developed our diagnostic capability. We've improved our systems. We've invested in our team. And we've continually looked for ways to improve the experience our customers receive.
Joining 1TEC isn't about changing that direction.
It's about accelerating it.
We want Meadowfield to remain a genuinely independent local garage while having access to the products, knowledge, training and technical support needed to look after the next generation of vehicles.
